HOW TO MAXIMISE YOUR E-BIKE BATTERY?

Want to squeeze more kilometres out of every charge and keep your battery happy for the long haul? A few simple habits can make a big difference.

Here’s how to get the most out of your She’s Electric battery.

1. GIVE IT A LITTLE HELP

Your motor loves helping you, but it doesn’t need to do all the work.

Pedaling along with the motor - especially when taking off, climbing hills or riding into a headwind - reduces the load on your battery and helps extend your range.

A little leg power goes a long way.

2. EASY ON THE THROTTLE

We know. It’s tempting.

But sitting on full throttle everywhere will drain your battery much faster than using pedal assist.

Save the throttle for when you need a quick boost and use pedal assist for cruising if you want to maximise your range.

3. USE THE RIGHT ASSIST LEVEL

More power = more battery.

Higher assist levels are great for hills, headwinds and when you simply cannot be bothered - but for everyday cruising, dropping the assist level will help you travel further on a charge.

4. KEEP YOUR TYRES PUMPED

Soft tyres create more rolling resistance, which means your motor has to work harder to keep you moving.

Check your tyre pressure regularly and keep it within the recommended range printed on the tyre.

Less drag. More range. Better ride.

5. WEIGHT MATTERS

The more weight your bike is carrying, the harder the motor has to work.

Rider weight, passengers, surfboards, bags, groceries and everything else you’ve decided to bring along can affect your range.

No judgement. Just physics.

6. HILLS & HEADWINDS ARE BATTERY HUNGRY

Your battery range isn't a fixed number.

Steep hills, strong headwinds, soft surfaces, frequent stopping and starting, heavy loads and high assist levels can all increase battery consumption.

So if your battery disappears a little faster on a windy coastal ride than it does cruising around town - that’s completely normal.

7. DON'T LEAVE YOUR BATTERY FLAT

Finished your ride with an almost-empty battery? Give it some love.

Avoid leaving the battery completely discharged for extended periods. If you're putting your bike away for a while, check and recharge the battery periodically rather than letting it sit flat.

8. KEEP IT COOL

E-bike batteries aren't big fans of extreme temperatures.

Store your battery somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Avoid leaving it baking in a hot car, shed or anywhere else that turns into an oven during an Australian summer.

Your battery will thank you.

9. USE THE CORRECT CHARGER

Always use the charger supplied with your bike or an approved compatible replacement.

The random charger you found in the garage?

Probably not worth the experiment.

10. LOOK AFTER IT & IT'LL LOOK AFTER YOU

Your battery is one of the hardest-working and most valuable parts of your e-bike.

Treat it well, charge it properly, keep your tyres pumped and give the pedals a little love, and you'll get better performance, better range and a longer battery life.

ONE LAST THING...

Every ride is different.

Your actual range will vary depending on things like rider weight, terrain, hills, wind, tyre pressure, temperature, riding style, assist level and how much throttle you use.

So if you're planning a big mission, don't push your luck.

Charge her up. Then ride her hard.
